Corviglia, St. Moritz

The ski and snowboard cross competitions are located at over 2600 m above sea level and wind through the hilly terrain of the Munt da San Murezzan. The starting platform is located on the underpass tunnel built for the women's World Cup downhills right next to the mountain station. From there, a long starting straight leads towards the first steep curve. Then natural and artificial elements alternate on a total of 5 straights and 4 bends to the finish. The finish is in a beautiful natural grandstand called Lanigiro.

The terrain is predestined for these disciplines. It has the right gradient, many natural hills and hollows and the safety of the athletes can be guaranteed with little effort. The greatest risk is the weather. So high in the alpine terrain there are no natural obstacles for wind, fog or snow drifts.

The mogul competitions take place in the White Band, one of the most beautiful sections in the entire Engadin. Tschainas is the beautiful, Romanesque name for the start section. The finish is above Salastrains on the so-called Alp Giop.

In terms of the gradient and the specifications, this is the only place that is predestined to hold this competition along the Salastrains chairlift. The specifications stipulate an incline of 28° ± 4° and this over a minimum length of 200m. These specifications can be met and implemented in the selected area. At this location too, it is possible to move along the public piste from start to finish and admire the spectacular mogul experts in their competitions.

The parallel competitions for snowboarders start in the giant slalom at Alp Gip and in the slalom below the Rominger, the well-known downhill jump in St. Moritz, where the alpine jumps of up to 70m can be admired during the downhill competitions. The giant slalom has a small bend and then joins the slalom section. The finish is on the Salastrains and offers a comprehensive view of the entire race.

The location is almost identical to that of the parallel competitions previously held on the Corviglia. In order to meet the requirements, the PGS was extended to the area above the Rominger. The slalom is practically identical to what has previously been done by the alpine skiers. According to FIS requirements, a gradient of 17° should not be exceeded. This can be easily adhered to on 3/4 of the route, only the starting slope in the Rominger is steeper.

Both competitions end at the same finish on Salastrains. Spectators have the opportunity to enjoy the competition either from the finish in its entirety or from one side via the spectator track along 3/4 of the course.

The ski jump facility for the aerial competitions will be built in the lowest part of the competition venue. The approach starts below the Lärchenweg and the finish area is slightly set forward on the Salastrainswiese, on the embankment of the former Rominger lift.

The selected location offers the athletes and spectators an ideal location. It is easy to reach, allows for a good atmosphere and, above all, is relatively consistent in terms of the wind. The competition venue is easy to reach and is easily accessible both on foot and on skis. Salastrains can be reached on foot, by carriage, by Signalbahn or with shuttles organized by us. Snow sports enthusiasts reach the finish area via the public slopes.
