Historic speed start in St. Moritz

The first women's downhill race of the World Cup season was almost unparalleled in its superlatives. A deep blue Engadin sky, perfect snow conditions, and a dazzling Lindsey Vonn.

The speed queen has once again made sporting history in St. Moritz. After celebrating her World Cup comeback here a year ago as the oldest female skier to do so, she stood atop the podium today for the first time in eight years – with a lead of almost a second (!) over second-placed Magdalena Egger. At 41, Lindsey Vonn is by far the oldest World Cup winner of all time. The previous record holder was the Swiss skier Didier Cuche, who won the Super-G in Crans Montana in 2012 at the age of 37.
