More freedom for the Inn – Revitalisation of the Inn in Celerina

The new course of the Inn near Celerina

Like many other rivers in Switzerland, the Inn near Celerina has been restricted in its natural development over the past century due to riverbank engineering.

Following extensive revitalisation projects already carried out in Samedan and Bever, Celerina has now taken similar steps. The project introduced measures to give the Inn River more space to flow and develop naturally again.
To achieve the planned ecological enhancements, various framework conditions had to be carefully considered and balanced. These included urban development, the needs of agriculture and tourism, as well as groundwater and flood protection.

As a result, conservation zones and usage zones were carefully designated. The revitalisation works were completed in 2025.
