Successful rehearsal for the Freestyle World Championships 2025

Last week, the 2023 national ski cross season kicked off in the Engadin: the European ski cross elite met on the Corviglia for two European Cup races, which opened the Audi Skicross Tour 2023. The multi-day ski cross spectacle also served as a rehearsal for the 2025 Freestyle World Championships, which will also take place in St. Moritz in just over two years. Next weekend, more ski cross races will take place on the original World Championship course - another opportunity for the OC of the Freestyle World Championships to demonstrate its competence.

St. Moritz and its local mountain, the Corviglia, are currently all about ski cross: last week, the starting signal for this year's Audi Skicross Tour was given on the same course that will host the Freestyle World Championships in 2025. The Swiss athletes knew how to use their home advantage: in three of four races at European Cup level, a Swiss stood on the top of the podium. Finally, an event for juniors and kids was also held on Saturday as part of the Audi Skicross Tour and in optimal weather conditions, in which the future skicross stars were also able to show off on the original World Championship course.

The skicross spectacle on the Corviglia continues

The Audi Skicross Tour will be visiting St. Moritz again next weekend: in the FIS and Open categories, there will again be a fight for podium places and points for the tour ranking on the Salastrains Skicross course. The Engadin is taking over the two races, which were postponed and moved to St. Moritz due to the long-term uncertain snow conditions in Lenk. This gives the athletes in the FIS and Open categories the opportunity to collect important points and at the same time prove their skills on the original World Championship course.

Gaining experience for the 2025 Freestyle World Championships

Didi Waldspurger, Race Director Audi Skicross Tour, says he is happy that St. Moritz is stepping in for the FIS races in Lenk: "On the one hand, we can guarantee the athletes fair races that correspond to the level of the tour, and on the other hand, the OC of the 2025 Freestyle World Championships will have an additional opportunity to prove its competence and gain further important experience, which could be decisive for further preparations for the World Championships in two years." Daniel Schaltegger, CEO of the Freestyle World Championships, is also looking forward to the new tour stop in St. Moritz: "Such freestyle events are always an opportunity to show the population what is possible in their home country and what the ski resorts can offer at the highest level." At the same time, it can raise awareness among locals that in just two years a unique major event with great significance for the region and huge international appeal will take place on their own doorstep. "That's why I'm very pleased that at the beginning of March, St. Moritz will host other disciplines, the Aerials World Cup and the Moguls European Cup, in which world champions will also be crowned at the Freestyle World Championships in 2025.
